Retail CCTV Layout & Camera Placement
Design effective surveillance systems for retail stores and loss prevention
Retail Security Challenges
- • Theft Prevention: Monitor high-value merchandise display areas 24/7
- • Customer Flow: Track customer movement through store layout
- • Point of Sale: Ensure clear recording of checkout transactions
- • Entrance/Exit Monitoring: Identify customers entering and leaving
- • Blind Spot Coverage: Eliminate gaps in high-risk areas
- • Evidence Quality: Maintain sufficient resolution for identification
Typical Retail Store Layout Zones
1. Entrance/Exits (High Priority)
Place wide-angle cameras to capture faces of all entering/exiting customers. Use 4mm lenses for identification at 10m+ distances.
2. Merchandise Display (Critical)
Position cameras to capture high-value merchandise aisles. Use 4MP+ cameras with 8mm lenses for detail recognition at 8m distance.
3. Checkout Area (Essential)
Mount cameras directly above or beside POS terminals to record transactions clearly. Use high resolution (4MP+) with 3.6-4mm lens.
4. Storage/Backroom (Important)
Cover inventory areas with wide-angle coverage. 2MP cameras with 2.8mm lens are sufficient for general monitoring.
5. Parking Area (Recommended)
If applicable, monitor parking to record vehicle details. Use 2MP-4MP cameras with 4-6mm lenses for license plate reading.
